Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Two of her earliest television performances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother portrayed the role. Her parents, however, did not allow her to act until she turned an adult, for fear of the negative effects that stress could be able to have on their daughter. Perry shy and timid to perform in the school, began performing in theater classes at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new acquaintances. Perry went on to New York, where she landed small roles in series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness brought Perry back to California which was where theatre jobs were readily available. She appeared on Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in 2013. The show was directed by Eugene O'Neill. Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie as well as Kevin McKidd. This was staged at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. In 2017, she starred in a recurring role on the ABC political thriller Scandal with her father. She played the role of an older Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off show that was part of the CBS show The Big Bang Theory was another portrayal by her younger mother.
