Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez was born in Mexico. She is an American Mexican actress. She also sings. Her mother raised her in the USA and she was subject to numerous racial slurs that made her feel like an unwanted person. After entering a ninth-grade school audition where she received high praise for her singing and acoustics, she began to gain confidence. This experience did not just help the confidence of her, but also altered the direction she was heading in her the future. She was a graduate of New York's Julliard School at the age of 22. In 1993 she had her Broadway debut in Paul Simon's The Capeman. Her first film was called You've Got Mail. In the Broadway first production of Spamalot, she played the Lady of The Lake and was awarded the Tony Award as well as high praise from critics. In the year following, she joined the ABC show Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres and gained wider acceptance for the role. A singer by profession and producer, she's produced a single as well as an extended piece. She's also an activist who works hard to protect LGBT rights.
